History of LSJ Warrior High School Hockey

The LSJ Warriors High School Hockey program is a club program made up of student-athletes from across Southwest Michigan.

The vision began in 2004 with an initial meeting with the Southwest Michigan High School Hockey League. While that effort was unsuccessful, a dedicated group of local hockey leaders remained committed to bringing the program to life.

In 2006, that persistence paid off when the Warriors were granted membership in the Michiana High School Hockey League (MHSHL) for the 2006–2007 season, marking the program’s inaugural year. League opponents included South Bend St. Joseph, Adams, Riley, Penn, and Valparaiso.

The program continued to grow:

  • 2007: Junior Varsity team established, competing in a partial MHSHL schedule
  • 2008: Varsity team invited to compete in the Indiana High School Hockey Association (ISHSHA) State Tournament (1A Division)
  • 2009: JV team joined the West Michigan JV Prep Hockey League (WMJVHL)
  • 2020: JV team became part of the inaugural ISHSHA Prep League

The Warriors reached new heights in recent years:

  • 2016: MHSHL City Tournament Champions, Head Coach John Koehler
  • 2017: MHSHL City Tournament Champions, Head Coach John Koehler
  • 2016: JV West Michigan J.V. State Championship, Head Coach Dave Mitchell
  • 2020: JV West Michigan J.V. State Championship, Head Coach Tim Sena
  • 2021: JV West Michigan J.V. State Championship, Head Coach Joe DeFay
  • 2021: Varsity team captured its first ISHSHA 3A State Championship , Head Coach Tim Sena
  • 2022: JV team finished Runner-Up in the 1st ISHSHA Prep State Championship, Head Coach Joe DeFay

From a determined idea to a championship program, the LSJ Warriors continue to represent dedication, growth, and pride in Southwest Michigan hockey.
